VOAD & PARTNERS
At Ground Force Humanitarian Aid, we firmly believe that collaboration is the cornerstone of creating positive change. We are immensely grateful to our partners who stand by us in our mission to serve and support the communities that are impacted. We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our esteemed partners, including the Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) and various other non-profit organizations, whose unwavering support empowers us to make a difference.
VOLUNTEER ORGANIZATIONS ACTIVE IN DISASTER
Ground Force Humanitarian Aid is strategically leveraging several critical resources facilitated by VOADs to enhance its disaster response capabilities. With automatic notifications of state-organized disaster responses, the Ground Force can swiftly mobilize resources and personnel. Furthermore, access to funded housing for volunteers, facilitated by VOAD or state provisions, ensures a supportive infrastructure for relief efforts. Equally vital is the availability of supplies from partner organizations and warehouses, which bolster the Ground Force’s capacity to respond effectively post-disaster. Regular participation in planning calls with fellow partners fosters coordination and synergy in disaster response strategies. Currently pursuing membership in multiple states, including Texas and Louisiana, reflects the Ground Force’s commitment to expanding its reach and influence. The ultimate aim is to attain membership in at least five states, a prerequisite for National VOAD membership. Securing acceptance into NVOAD not only affords access to resources at the state level but also streamlines collaboration across all states, fortifying the Ground Force’s position as a formidable force in disaster relief efforts.
Kentucky Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster
Subsequently, we submitted our application in Kentucky, a region where we had dedicated nearly a year of efforts. At their ensuing quarterly assembly, our application was approved. This pivotal moment granted us access to an in-person meeting, enabling us to initiate case management operations in Kentucky, a venture that has proven immensely successful.
Mississippi Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster
In 2023, Mississippi marked our inaugural acceptance as a full-fledged state member. This milestone illuminated the pivotal role of VOAD in disaster recovery. It was a firsthand revelation of our potential to magnify impact through participation in every state. Gratitude is owed to Gerald Schmuck, the President, whose guidance led us into acceptance by the board of directors, igniting our VOAD journey.
Florida Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster
Florida VOAD commands a significant presence due to the state’s frequent encounters with disasters. Their response efforts are notably well-coordinated, with the Governor’s office actively involved through Volunteer Florida. FLVOAD collaborates closely with VF in this regard. Notably, our association with VOAD facilitated the acquisition of a $50,000 grant from the Governor’s disaster fund, a testament to the invaluable opportunities that membership affords.
Louisiana Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster
We are a proud member of LaVOAD, in our home state of Louisiana. GFHA has a long history, dating back to 2016, of disaster response service here following tornados, ice storms, flood disasters and numerous hurricanes (some with year long deployments assisting in long term recovery).
North Carolina Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster
Hurricane Helene’s 2024 historic flooding devastated Mitchell, Avery, and Yancey counties, leaving families stranded, homes destroyed, and thousands without power, food, or basic necessities. Counties in declared disaster zones tended to have higher shares of older adults, people with disabilities, and mobile homes than those outside the disaster areas. GFHA was boots on the ground for 12 weeks, providing critical relief and long-term recovery assistance. We were subsequently approved for NCVOAD membership.
Bayou Area Regional Recovery
Barr VOAD, a regional VOAD of Louisiana, serving Terrebonne and Lafourche Parishes and the city of Grand Isle (Jefferson Parish).
Acadiana Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster
Acadiana VOAD, a regional VOAD of Louisiana, serving the greater Acadiana Region of Southwest Louisiana. The service area includes Acadia, Evangeline, Iberia, Lafayette, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary, and Vermilion parishes.
