When the Waters Rise at Home: Ground Force Responds to Lafayette Flooding

Overnight, a powerful storm system swept through Lafayette, Louisiana, dropping 5 to 10 inches of rain in just a few hours. The intense rainfall overwhelmed local drainage systems, triggered flash flooding across the city, and brought major road closures that are still ongoing.

What makes this moment especially painful is its timing: Festival International de Louisiane is underway, drawing thousands of visitors and serving as one of the most economically vital weekends of the year for local businesses, vendors, musicians, and artists.

What should have been a weekend of celebration is now marked by uncertainty — but Lafayette’s spirit, as always, is unshaken.

Ground Force Is on the Ground

Ground Force Humanitarian Aid is based right here in Louisiana, and Lafayette is our hometown. When flooding disrupted our streets and community gathering spaces overnight, we immediately began offering boots-on-the-ground support.

Our team is actively engaged in helping with localized flood response. We are offering assistance to partners and neighbors where we can, and staying present as cleanup efforts evolve throughout the weekend.

As always, we’re listening to community voices and staying flexible to meet real-time needs.

A City Worth Showing Up For

Festival International is more than an event — it’s a cultural heartbeat. It uplifts the stories, music, food, and resilience of South Louisiana and supports local businesses who rely on this annual celebration to keep going.

This flood threatens more than infrastructure. It challenges livelihoods. But Lafayette has always risen stronger — and this weekend will be no different.

Stay Connected and Support Local

We’ll continue monitoring the situation and sharing ways the public can support recovery and keep the festival spirit alive.
